Case Study
One of the world’s largest insurance companies enlisted Hanover to assist in finding a Chief Data Officer.
With a global, complex, and diverse business, the company needed the best candidate for the role. Hanover was tasked with searching across both sides of the Atlantic to provide a single, qualified shortlist. Candidates had to possess the right technical expertise, approach to achieving long-term objectives, and cultural fit.
Additionally, there were time constraints and salary requirements that had to align with the company’s structure. The research and candidate selection process also needed to adhere to their diversity policy.
Hanover conducted thorough market research and presented findings that helped refine the job and person specifications. It became apparent that flexibility on compensation might be necessary.
Hanover compared compensation, notice periods, benefits, and cultural fit options in both the US and Europe. The research focused on individuals in similar roles within competitors, including those one level below who could step up, and outstanding candidates who might not fit perfectly on paper but offered complementary skills.
An efficient interview and assessment schedule was established, with commitment at the highest levels. Candidates who did not make the shortlist were informed of the reasons. Those who did were further prepared and briefed.
After initial meetings with the line manager, the list was refined, and candidates met with senior management and prospective peers. References were checked, feedback was collected, and the final decision was made. A formal offer was extended and accepted after a successful assessment.
