What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in executive search?
The best piece of advice I received when starting out was to “play the long game”. Take your time to build long-lasting, quality relationships with clients and candidates rather than focusing on quick wins. Put in the effort to become a true sector specialist so you can play a strategic role when it comes to the client’s hiring decisions and be a trusted careers adviser to the candidates you are dealing with.
What 3 tips would you give someone looking for a new role?
I would advise someone who is thinking about taking on a new role to assess it across four key metrics: the role (on a day to day basis), the people (the culture and environment they are looking to join), the financial merits and most crucially the longer term potential. I always advise candidates to think about what life in that role will look like in five years, as I find this is often an overlooked factor.
